Cat 5, 5e and 6

Good thing it was a jeans day at school…I had to crawl under tables and climb over things in an attempt to wire up a new lab. Well, it’s actually a new space with older machines.

Part of the process involved purchasing the patch cables required to complete the task. There are different standards, commonly known as Cat 5, 5e or 6. The latter being the most current and most desireable.  For this task I picked 5e since it was not the oldest out of date technology, nor was it the more expensive 6.

I used to know what Cat 5 cables looked like inside, but here’s a peek at the Cat 6 wizardry. I won’t even pretend to understand it.

Grateful for:

  • OSSLT logistical success

Curious about:

  • why Windows 7 still won’t let the HP printer print pages. ugh!
