How easy it is to misunderstand…

Today I learned how easy it is to misunderstand others.

For example:

Two teens fight each other in a classroom. Why? Because one person wrote something on Facebook, the other reacted, and then the other had to come back with something bigger and stronger. Result? Bam! Slam! Suspensions! Hopefully the conversations from today will go a long way towards healing the toxic ‘he said, she said’ syndrome which only (and always!!) leads to unecessary misunderstanding.

Two adults talk. One thinks the bully is in the room, but meanwhile, the alleged bully has only sought to make things more efficient. Both have been misunderstood and are also guilty of misunderstanding.

One teen tries to choke another, all because one other teen was the first person’s friends today and the other person’s ex-friend from yesterday, or something like that. The net result is that one teen in particular is really feeling the pain…of not having anyone to eat with at lunch, the ultimate test of whether or nor you belong. So, in anger, attempting to choke another person seems to make sense. But when all is said and done, it was just one big misunderstanding born out of an almost primal need to belong.

Grateful for:

  • the ability to say ‘sorry’
  • a great meeting to find an alternate school option for a teen
  • Christmas lights up and looking great

Curious about:

  • how to use Senteo and Smartboards better
  • knee surgery
